June Inspiration from Our Founder: Finding Balance as a Mom in the Summer Months

As summer approaches, I find myself reflecting on the unique opportunities and challenges this season brings. The warmth of summer invites us to slow down, enjoy the longer days, and nourish ourselves in nature. Yet, as you know, finding balance as a mom can often feel like an elusive goal.

For me, balancing the demands of running a business alongside being a mom is an ongoing struggle, especially when the kids are out of school. Along the way, I’ve learned that flexibility and setting boundaries are key. I try to maximize my early morning work schedule when the house is still quiet, while saving the afternoons for fun family activities. It's also essential for me to practice what we preach at Matrescence, so I make sure to carve out moments of self-care during the day, even if it's just enjoying a quiet cup of tea or taking a quick walk around the block. Of course, motherhood means always knowing that things may not go as planned, and that’s okay too.

I'm fortunate to have my husband's support and guidance on our shared journey of parenting. This underscores the significance of acknowledging and appreciating the roles that fathers and father-figures play in our lives and the lives of our children. Though our primary focus at Matrescence is on 'mothering the mother', we recognize and value the significance of partnership in parenting and honor all caregivers, whether they are a spouse, a co-parent, or a supportive friend or relative. All the help we receive on this journey is invaluable. Father's Day presents an opportunity to celebrate the partners who support us, co-parent with us, and stand beside us on this journey and remind us that while motherhood is counted among our superpowers, we're not in this game alone.

This summer, my family and I plan to spend as much time as possible outdoors, soaking up the sunshine and connecting with nature. We're planning hikes, beach trips, and perhaps a camping adventure. My personal goal is to stay present during these moments, setting aside work and distractions to truly engage with my family. As for rituals, I look forward to quiet early mornings, savoring the peaceful start of the day before the bustle begins.

This June, I encourage you to create space for self-care, celebrate the fathers in your life, and set your own summer intentions. Remember balance isn't about perfection—it's about finding what works for you and your family.

Here's to a beautiful summer!
