Behind the Scenes at Matrescence: Meet Becky White

Meet Becky White, Matrescence's Digital Marketing Manager and mama (bio and bonus) to four kiddos: James (10), Hunter (9), Luci (7), and Brooks, who just turned 1 this week! Becky took a few minutes to tell us more about her career and her role at Matrescence, what she’s learned about herself through motherhood, and her favorite Matrescence product.

Matrescence: Tell our community more about your role at Matrescence, and how you found your way here.

Becky: I manage all things digital marketing for Matrescence -- in this role, that means the online store, email marketing, paid digital media, social strategy, and more. I have been in marketing for over 20 years and have a really holistic marketing background: I've been in agencies and in-house at clients, and have managed integrated marketing programs for B2B, B2C, and direct-to-consumer brands. After I had my baby last year, I decided to hit pause on my traditional 9-to-5 and seek a position that would fully allow me to be both mama AND marketer. I am so lucky to have found that position with Matrescence.

Matrescence: What have you learned about yourself since becoming a mother?

Becky: Wow. Well, I've been a mom for a while now, as my daughter is about to be 8 years old. I'm also a bonus mom to a 10-year-old and a 9-year-old, so it definitely wasn't my first motherhood rodeo when I had Brooks a year ago. But I am an older mom with Brooks -- I had him two weeks before my 40th birthday -- and I think that has given me a much different perspective on motherhood. With my first, I was hyper-focused on my career and the pace of life felt very fast -- it was always go, go, go, whether it be our morning routine to get us to daycare or the evening rush to pick up, make dinner, and spend quality time before putting her to bed and resuming more work. With Brooks, I've been much more intentional about slowing down and really embracing my role as mom and trying to soak up the time with him and the rest of my family. As my husband always says, "The days are long, but the years are short." And that is so true. So I've learned that I need to be fully present in this season of motherhood, and perhaps allow my identity to shift a bit too, from career woman to working mom.

Matrescence: What do you admire about motherhood?

Becky: Literally everything. Moms kick ass. I don't know how moms do it, I don't know how I do it. Wake up every day and get everything done for everyone plus themselves! I do know that it takes a special person to be a mom.

Matrescence: Which Matrescence product is your favorite, and why?

Becky: I love, love, love the Rose Glow Brightening Essence. It honestly is such a treat to apply, and feels like such an indulgence! It brightens and evens my skin and gives me a super fresh glow. A friend just asked me this weekend what I'm using on my skin, so I gave a huge shout-out to Matrescence!

Matrescence: What are three items you’ll never leave the house without?

Becky: My phone (in its Bandolier case, perfect for busy mamas!), a chapstick, and at least one of my children.

Matrescence: Coffee or tea, mama?

Becky: Coffee, all day every day. My husband actually just bought me a cold brew maker so that I can have cold brew on demand. (And probably so that I'll stop buying coffee shop cold brew, too!)

Matrescence: Favorite TV show?

Becky: Oh, I'm such a nerd. I'm watching Seasons 3 and 4 of one of my favorites, What We Do In the Shadows. If you haven't heard of it, I'm not surprised. It's about the daily lives of thousand-year-old vampires in Staten Island. Think The Office, but with vampires.

Matrescence: Ladies' Night Out or host Ladies’ Night In?

Becky: Ladies' Night In. I'm an extroverted introvert, so I love my friends but crave more low-key surroundings.

Matrescence: Read that book you’ve been meaning to get through, or watch that movie you’ve been meaning to see?

Becky: Um, I have four kids. I would do either in a heartbeat, should the opportunity present itself!
